Kat Dennings And Woody Harrelson Team For Mysterious Superhero Project, ‘Defendor’

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

You can officially be jealous of Kat Dennings now. Not only does she have an infinite playlist, but now she has a theoretical superhero as a best friend. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dennings is in talks to join Woody Harrelson and Sandra Oh in “Defendor,” the directorial debut from Peter Stebbings.

Harrelson plays a man who believes he has a secret superhero identity — the Defendor of the title. Dennings will play a teenager he befriends — and who, I imagine, is the only one to believe him. Oh will be trading her “Grey’s Anatomy” scrubs for a different field of medicine, as she will play Harrelson’s psychiatrist.

Details on this film are rather scarce — is it a comedy? A drama? A combination of both? I’m hoping it’s a comedy, something in the style of “Mystery Men” and not a weepy study of the true nature of (super)heroism. The comic book/superhero genre is still too fragile and easily sneered at to start tackling the “K-Pax” kind of tales.

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Kat is featured as one of Moviefone’s “25 Under 25: Hollywood’s Hottest Young Stars”. Check out the article below - congrats Kat!

Kat Dennings

Age: 22

Years on List: 2008

What She’s Done: She was Catherine Keener’s not-quite-sexually-active daughter in ‘40-Year-Old Virgin’; played a goth girl who gets an Anna Faris makeover in ‘The House Bunny.’

What’s Next: She plays Michael Cera’s possible soul mate in ‘Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist,’ then stars in Robert Rodriguez’s kid-friendly ‘Shorts’ and the college football flick ‘End Zone.’

Industry Buzz: “Kat is a refreshing and remarkable actress,” says ‘Nick and Norah’ director Peter Sollett. “She’s unbound by what she thinks a director might be expecting of her, instead favoring unique interpretation of her character. She’s an independent-minded artist who is here to stay.”
